Description: Part of the Pike National Forest, this 26-square-mile area was established in 1936 for the purpose of land management studies. The area's main attraction for birders is a healthy Flammulated Owl population, easily detected here after dusk from mid-May into June. The area also offers suitable habitat for a variety of montane species. Part of the Experimental Forest was damaged during the Hayman fire of 2002 (see below).

Directions: Take US 24 to Woodland Park. Turn right on CO 67 and head 8.7 miles to the Experiment Forest entrance on the right (just past Manitou Lake, see below).
