Rocky Ford Canal - Otero County
Aliases:
Ownership: None Listed
Description: This seldom-visited location has produced a few surprises, and looks like it should be a great birding spot. The main claim to fame here is the Tricolored Heron that spent most of a summer along the canal, in the company of Snowy and Cattle Egrets. In addition to being a great wader spot, the canal itself may hold some dabblers, and the trees look like they would be good for migrants, and the underbrush for sparrows. The county line situation here is complicated, so you may never know which bird you can count in Crowley County and which you can count in Otero County.

Habitat: Stream

Directions: From US 50 one mile west of Rocky Ford, head north on CO 71 across the Arkansas River. Just past the river, turn left (west) onto the canal road.
